Generally, I like my coffee to be really floral and vibrant, with a tea-like body. However sometimes I just want something with a more "traditonal" flavor profile. Something a bit nutty, a bit chocolatey. This is what I like to call "table coffee", good for sipping, good for everyday. This lovely coffee from Luiz Saldanha of the Fazenda California farm is something for every day. I really love the nuttiness that you find in this cup. Luiz Saldanha's reputation precedes him, as a farmer experimenting with modern processing techniques, coffee quality grader, and coffee sustainability expert.
Fazenda California, owned by the Saldanha family, is located in the Brazilian subtropical region of the Norte Pioneiro do Parana. This region is characterized by being the area adjacent to southern Brazil able to develop coffee plantation without the low temperatures of the winter period which hinder production. The coexistence of volcanic soils of high fertility, good distribution of rainfall throughout the year and the binomial established between its average elevation of 750 meters and latitude 23ºS result in a micro climate with average annual temperature of 20ºC, four well defined seasons and a wide temperature range. This in turn creates the ideal environment for the development of the highest quality arabica coffee lots.

Finca La Reserva
In the department of Antioquia, Finca La Reserva sits atop the mountains at a dizzying 2000 meters above seal level. When Juan Felipe, La Reserva’s pioneering producer, came on board, he realized the potential of the the land.
In 2018, Juan Felipe began executing his long-term plan for the estate. By employing best practices in harvesting and innovation processing, he made La Reserva into a specialty coffee powerhouse.
However, La Reserva is not only about innovation in processing and award-winning cup profiles. Juan Felipe is particularly proud of his conservation efforts and finding the balance between high-quality production and caring for the farm’s 200 hectare’s of protected forests.
